Since 1920, our office in the Netherlands has played a crucial role in representing the commercial interests of wineries from various producing countries. In addition to carefully selecting importers, we diligently guide them to achieve successful distribution.
Our years of experience and deep knowledge of the wine market allow us to make valuable connections between producers and importers, resulting in thriving collaborations and outstanding wine selections.
The founders of our firm were sworn in as “wine brokers and appraisers” because of their extensive expertise and were often consulted by courts, insurers and other parties for appraisals, valuations, acquisitions and participations in the wine industry.
Their thorough knowledge and experience have given our firm a respected position within the industry, allowing us to rely on our expertise at every step of our services.
Since 1920, our founder, W. de Waal, began as a passionate commercial agent in the wine industry. What began as a search for the perfect wines on behalf of Dutch importers soon evolved into representing renowned wineries in the Dutch market.
1920
W. de Waal established a trading agency in wine. At that time, the wine was sought on behalf of the Dutch importer. Gradually the demand was turned around and several wineries proposed to represent them in the Dutch market.
1967
1986
1999
Marnix Engels took over the shares after now being in the wine business for 20 years. His expertise had also been validated by being sworn in as a wine broker and appraiser. The organization adapted to new times and took on a different role by offering more market-oriented solutions.
2018
Frédéric van der Mijnsbrugge, with the company since 1999, will become owner in 2018. With a background in marketing and years with this firm as experience in the wine trade, he has helped to renew the positioning in the marketplace for many a vendor in this firm’s portfolio.
2023
Since 2023, Maarten van den Dungen has joined “De Waal, Zey & Engels. With his 20-plus years of experience in the wine industry, drive and expertise of the market, he contributes to the company’s continued growth and success.
